It will be like it always has been. There will be those who see it as a choice of “whether it’s better to serve God” and those who will fall on the side of “honor the emperor”. I’m a Calvinist so until a prince of the blood line takes up the cause I can’t go to war in France.

That should give me hope.

My point is that too much stuff gets piled on what is central to Christian faith, namely Christ. Organization is not church. The church is people.

Well said Dan, I do believe that the system as you and I have experienced it is beyond change or reform. The system and the power brokers faith journey are intertwined in such a way that change is impossible.

The apostle Paul called for us to follow his example. The guy never pulled back; kept pressing forward. And he desired to fellowship in the sufferings of Christ Jesus. Well, you too are privlidged to fellowship in His sufferings, i.e., He was despised and rejected by men.
Our deepest and most profound fellowship with Jesus are experienced as we connect with Him in His sufferings. Rejoice! And again I say rejoice!Love you. Dick

Dan and Jody,
Thank you both for being faithful to your calling in Christ Jesus. I’ve read Dan’s newspaper columns over the years and heard Jody’s testimony at a women’s retreat and I do affirm that the Holy Spirit has annointed you both to minister to the weary saints that have feeble knees and limp hands, myself included.

Thanks, Dave. I, too, recommend Wayne’s book. My recent experience has a been a departure from my experience of the previous 15. Believe me, nothing I’ve seen in the last four years has made me doubt my departure from the traditional model of church in 1990. Don’t get me wrong, the people have been wonderful, but systems and the people in them are not the same thing. Thanks for the recommendation. You’ve inspired me to post a page called “Reading for Free-range Followers of Jesus.” The ‘Colsen’ book will be on it. Thanks.

I agreed with you. Family is soooooo Best but I also see some rules not by laws need to be in place..We all have them in our life’s Mostly in this world but bylaws that a board makes up where a church has no say is wrong on so many levels.

Well said, Dan. Some human problems aren’t easily solved– (the Greek widows, you know.)
So the question of when and how to organize is always an issue. I think we all long for the church to be true family.

Hey Dan,
I have always appreciated your writing. After we had lunch many years ago and talked of the home church model I of course, continued to attemp to pastor in the traditional church paradigm. Of course this met with mostly frustration as I too really don’t fit the model. Finally a few years ago I just made the jump. I have to say that my blood pressure has gone down considerably. My wife has been instrumental in helping me come to the conclusion that I don’t fit, well as though it was not obvious. I know a great many people who have opted to change paradigms. Thanks for the words of encouragement all those years ago and for your writing. May God bless you and Jody in your life of ministry.
